D. T. Carney: Director

|
1. Tell us a little about your background, where are you from and when did you decide that you wanted to become a filmmaker? I am originally from the east Coast, I spent the best years of my youth at the Movies. They had awesome double bills like Suspiria & Deathdream. I got to see Dawn of the Dead, The Evil Dead and tons of Italian Chunkblowers on the Bigscreen. Then the Home video market came and kinda ruined it all. I saw N.O.T.L.D when I was about 10 years old, It scared the crap out of me. I ran home looking behind me all the way thinking Zombies were chasing me. Then a few years later I saw Halloween after seeing those two Films I knew I wanted to somehow be involved in Horror. 2. What has been your favorite project to date and why? On Rocky Balboa (Rocky 6) I was on the set in Las Vegas for two Days. I am a huge Rocky Fan and got a chance to meet Sly Stallone. I also got to hang out with Burt Young. He was the most down to earth person you could ever meet. It was an awesome time taking direction from Mr. Stallone. 3. Tell us about your latest directorial project "Dead Things" starring such great talent as Brinke Stevens, Ford Austin, Reggie Bannister, Joe Estevez and Felissa Rose. How was that experience? Any behind the scenes stories? Dead Things was a Dream to make. I got to work alongside all those talented Actors. Felissa Rose who I think is just an incredible actress let us Film some scenes at her and her Husband Deron(CKY) Miller's home. Check out Deron as he is a VERY Talented Actor and huge Horror Fan.There we were in the middle of the afternoon with Actor Christopher Galvan covered in a Bloody Slime as traffic was rubbernecking to see just what the hell we were up to. 4. In most of your films you have written, directed, produced and even acted in. Is it stressful to wear so many hats? I really like the Acting part http://www.therightcast.com/act/dtcarney/ As far as directing goes I try to be very open to suggestion. Our sets are very loose and Fun everyone seems to have a great time. It would be stressful if Iwasn't surrounded by these Talented people. Tom Harris, Ronny Macomber, James Cruz, Richard Stallsmith & my awesome Wife Georgia. 5. From your experience, what do you think is the most important thing for a Director to bring to a set? A good attitude and willingness to listen to everyone on the set. There are times when others may have a better way of doing something, So why not try it? 6. What do you think makes a scary movie scary? I think a good Horror Film needs Tension. I love the feeling in my gut when something is building up to a crash. I have been working on Anthologies ( DeadThings /Dust to Dust) After Dust I plan on shooting a feature where I can flesh out the Characters alot more. 7. Any future projects in the works? Can you give us the scoop? My latest Film Dust to Dust will be shooting in Feb 2006. It has an incredible Cast. Check out the Trailer at www.gallowshillproductions.com. I will also be acting in Director Richard Stallsmith's " Hunting Ground" believe me if you like Werewolves this is the Film to catch. I will also be working on Director Richard Mcclures " Stoned Sober" a cool comedy in which I play a Hitman.

8. What is the biggest problem with Hollywood today? Remakes, Watered down Horror. I feel there should be an Adult rating for Films that are Graphic but not pornograffic. I feel alot of the Directors original vision is lost with an R rating. 9. Do you have any advice to aspiring filmmakers? Keep Shooting, If you don't have the equipment borrow it! Shoot...Shoot...Shoot. Don't let anyone talk you out of it. If you REALLY want to make a Film be it a Short or a Feature DO IT!!!! Don't talk about it. I know a guy who has changed projects like a dozen times and talks about his latest masterpiece but nothings been shot. My Films are far from perfect but I have finished them. That is a victory in itself. 10. Here's where we give you a word or phrase and you give us the first thoughts that pop into your mind. Hollywood: Boring /Lifeless Toxic Shock TV: Rocking (Thanks for having me) Biggest Influences: Fangoria/Romero/Carpenter Favorite Genre: Horror Biggest Regrets: Drinking Biggest Prick: you know who you are you Fucking weasel The funniest thing that has ever happened to you on a set: Joe Estevez faking a bowel movement in his pants on the set of Dead Things. Your biggest "break-thru" moment: Working with Brinke Stevens ( She is the BEST !!!!!!) You can only watch three movies for the rest of your life, which three: Halloween, Jaws, Dawn of the Dead (Romero) You can only listen to three ALBUMS for the rest of your life, which three: The Doors, Beatles/Abbey Road, Rolling Stones/Hot Rocks Thank you so much for having me. I wish you ALL a great Holiday Season. I hope you all like Dead Things as much as I did working on it. |
