Eric Spudic: Writer, Director, Actor

1. Give us a little background on yourself. You're a writer, director, producer and actor, when did you decide making films was what you wanted to do?

I think I was 13 when the family got its first vcr. My first movies were HAPPY HELL NIGHT, NAVY SEALS, PRIVATE WAR, YOUNG GUNS, and NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD(original). After watching tons of zombie movies I quickly decided all I wanted to do was zombie flicks. Later on I made the choice that I wanted to do other movies, too. Lol.

2. Who inspired you to become a filmmaker?

First inspiration was George Romero. His films are so creepy, gory, atmospheric, claustrophobic, and action-packed! Plus such awesome characters. Roger Corman and Charles Band were huge inspirations. And I can't forget my parents. My mom made it possible for me to buy my first camcorder.

3. What has been your favorite project to date?

I think KILLERS BY NATURE was the favorite. So much fun and goofing off and at the same time learning and teamwork.

4. What has been your least favorite project to date and why?

Probably EVIL UNLEASHED. What a nightmare and a bad movie. I think I only wrote 30% of that.

5. Tell us about your latest directorial project "Killers by Nature". Did you find it difficult to direct and star in the same movie?

It was tough. It was like working two full-time jobs. Memorizing dialogue and thinking about blocking and where to place the camera and where to hit my marks. Too much at once.

Next time I plan on being behind the camera more. It was a good way to work on my so-called acting skills.

6. What do you think is the most important thing for a Director to bring to the set?

Energy. The energy given off a great director can be absorbed by his or her cast and crew, resulting in a better product.

7. Tell us about your experience writing "Creepies". Did you participate in the production side of the film?

I wrote CREEPIES in 2 or 3 weeks for very little money. I actually didn't feel too excited about writing it because I was burned out at the time. David Sterling, the producer, said to watch RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD and remake it with spiders. So I did.

I did lots of research on hair metal bands, too, although much of that footage was cut. I only wrote it, nothing else. It's my fave as a writer, excellent cast and effects. Jeff Leroy did a tremendous job on this flick. He's one talented mofo.

8. Creepies 2 is currently being filmed, did you write the second film?

I didn't do anything on part 2 although I do have a writing credit. I guess since I created the franchise. My joke was to do part 2 in Japan, but instead they moved it to Las Vegas.

9. Any future projects in the works?

I'm shopping around MASSACRE MANSION, an 80's-ish gory slasher picture, and TEENAGE VIGILANTE, a very gritty revenge film.

10. Do you have any advice to aspiring filmmakers?

Quit talking and being lazy and go out to shoot a movie. Doesn't matter what you shoot it on or how much it costs, just do it.

11. Here's where we give you a word or phrase and you give us the first thoughts that pop into your mind.

Hollywood- Lots of traffic, hot babes, expensive, hiking, partying, celebrities, sunny.

Biggest influences- Dave DeCoteau, Fred Ray, Jim Wynorski, Charles Band, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Biggest regret- Not going to Hollywood a few years sooner.

Biggest prick- filmmakers who don't feed their cast and crew.

The dumbest thing you ever did on a set- complained about not getting paid.

Toxic Shock TV- sexy.

Your biggest "break-thru" moment- getting cast in a Charles Band/David DeCoteau film.

You can only watch 3 movies for the rest of your life, which 3- Dawn of the Dead(1978), Army of Darkness, Predator

You can only listen to 3 songs for the rest of your life, which 3- "November Rain" by Guns N Roses, "Life's Been Good" by Joe Walsh, and "Xanadu" by Rush.
