Kevin Spirtas: Brightest of Days to the Darkest of Nights.

This is Chris Staviski again with Toxic Shock TV and today I'm with  Kevin Spirtas, who has been in quite a few of our favorite old horror flicks. Friday The 13th Part 7, The Hills Have Eyes Part 2, Subspecies 2 and 3 - The Blood Stone and the Blood Lust, also he is one of the stud men on "Days of our Lives" for six years and he's coming back this year to do a little singing. I'd like to focus on his past on the stage as everybody knows, I've enjoyed years on the stage. Mr. Spirtas has just signed a one-year contract to do "Hairspray" at the Luxor, could you elaborate on that?

Hairspray the musical is going to be brought to Las Vegas in February 2006, that's when we open and I have been contracted to play the roll of Corny Collins, I'll be there for a year. Its going to be a sit-down company, so anytime your in Vegas and you go do a little gambling come over to the Luxor and see me as Corny Collins in Hairspray.

Awesome, I'll be sure to do that after I lose all my money at the Craps tables. As Brian Corder from Toxic Shock TV knows, I will never win at the craps tables at Luxor.

You have to know! Going to Vegas to gamble, you have to be a mindset of knowing your going to win. Otherwise its a totally different mindset and you will NEVER come out ahead!

That is very true. Oh there it is, were watching... actually.... Kevin on screen from the Friday the 13th. Are you about ready to get killed?

Actually, I didn't die in part 7. I ran around chasing Lar Park-Lincoln who plays the roll of Tina. Her supernatural Carriesque powers.  We found a lot of dead people in the woods as you do in a Friday the 13th Film part... whatever. Whatever part your doing.

That's true. Could you talk about some of your past stage work, the stuff you did on Broadway?

Yeah, I actually started my career about 20 years ago. I started on Broadway on a chorus line and I played the roll of Mike Costa, and I toured that around the country. And then came in to Los Angeles. It was in Los Angeles that I started getting into film and TV, but Broadway would always call me back. Actually, I did Meet Me In St. Louie on Broadway and two years ago I went back to the great white wades as standby for the amazingly talented actor Hugh Jackman in the musical The Boy From Oz. The life story of Peter Allen, although I never went on for him, it was quite extraordinary to be part of the experience. I do a one man show called Nights and Days, about my nights on the great stage and my days on Days of our Lives and recently I was asked to come back onto the soap and sing at my daughters wedding and we took my song that we do as my encore and I sang that to her on the soap. We also made it into a single, its called "The Sweetest of Nights and the Finest of Days" and if you go to my website KEVINSPIRTAS.COM or if you go to KRITZERLAND.COM, you can purchase the single and a portion of that goes to the hurricane relief fund for the hurricane Katrina victims.

That's awesome. That's just an awesome cause right there. I know that your from Saint Louis, so your a big Rams fan.

I am.

Ok... What about the Cardinals this year? Did you check that out?

No, you know , I've been a little too busy to be interested in how those Cards are doing. We won't talk about the Cards.

Yeah you know I kinda forgot about that one too myself. Although they did beat up on my Padres, so... that's the fun thing about sports.  Now, your going to be up in Vegas for a year, doing hairspray. Is there anything else your going to do in the next year while your up there?

Well you know Las Vegas for me is what I'm calling the Broadway annex or Broadway West. Its exciting, its a whole new frontier.  A lot of people have been encouraging me to go to Vegas, and see if I can get my one man show up and running, which I would love to do. Right now I'm focused on going to Vegas and learning Hairspray and getting it up and running by February. You know, there’s a couple of extracurricular activities, there’s some hosting, there’s some benefits, some modeling, some singing gigs. And they are doing a lot of TV there, so who knows, I might be doing some film and TV by the day and by the night I'll be doing my stage work.

Awesome, of course we will be looking out for that.

You've got to come up and see the show.

For Toxic Shock TV we put together a lot of advice for up-and-coming filmmakers, actors etc. Could you give a little advise out there to the actors, or to the filmmakers in general. What you think they need to do.

Well, that's a very layered question, but I will tell you this. What's worked for me, and uh, I say this to a lot of people, I say this to all of the soap fans. You have to do what you love, and it may be as corny as I'll get, but you know, if its your bliss. Keep following it. I used to go to bed praying that this feeling and desire to perform and act would not be taken away, because I just loved it so much and it just keeps coming up, revealing itself to me. Working and to keep going out and doing it. Just keep doing what you love and if you find that one day writing a film or directing or acting is not what you love is anymore than that's probably a good sign to move on to the next thing.

I have to agree with you, and we will head up there and check out Hairspray. All you Toxic Shock TV fans out there, when your in Vegas, swing on by.
