Believe it or not, we're NOT getting paid for this, but we thought we'd turn you on to some really cool people with a really cool set-up. Meet Allan and Cyndi Johnson. There are not only husband and wife, they are also the owner/operators of a music studio in Riverside/Moreno Valley area, called "SOUND-TECH"

We had recently gone up to their studio to do a photo shoot and basically fell in love with the place. Myself being an old axe-basher from way back, I'm here to tell you, this place had got it all. Not only do they do recordings, pressings, etc, you could literally walk in off the street, empty-handed and they'd have all the gear and equipment you'd ever need to complete your music project. The set-up of the studio is an awesome site to begin with. Out of the way, secluded and run by one of the coolest dudes we've ever met.

Allan, not only a musician and lover of music in general, (i mean c'mon, the guy quit a fuckin' 6 digit-a-year job to do what he loves), he's well versed in the engineering aspect of recording and gives you plenty of room to work and "do your own thing".Not one of those guys that stands over your shoulder and watches every tick of the clock. They have all top-line gear ,and really the atmosphere sells the place, really laid back. Check out the e-view we did with Allan and definitely consider "SOUND-TECH" on your next project. You'll not be disappointed. Again, we ain't gettin' a dime from this, but we really dig what he's trying to do there and hope to throw a little biz his way, not that he needs our help, ut without a doubt, you'll know why this place is one of the best kept secrets in the Riverside area. Check it out!!

Sound-Tech Studios: Much more than just a recording studio!

1)Que' Pasa Allan, tell us what's been happenin' and tell us more about "Soundtech Studios"?

Not much, same old same old, recording, playing, drinkin. sound-techis doing well, keeping busy.

2)What has you studio got, that makes it different than most?

LOCATION, where set in a canyon on 3 acres, its quiet, easy access, no elevators, low stress and natural surroundings. we also have 5 separate tracking rooms which sets us apart from other bedroom or 1 room studios.

3)You've got one kick-ass set up in the studio, just what the hell do you have in there?

Everything from vintage gear to modern gadgets, 24 tracks of ADAT, drums guitars, amps etc.

4)You're definitely a full-service studio, with rentals, accessories, etc, you could basically just walk off the street and record at your place, yea?

Definitely we have everything you need to make it happen.

5)Name some of the better bands you've worked with.

Debonaires, B.O.B (band of brothers), Skelatones, Stepsisters, The Family.

6)Give us a good, "arrogant-poseur-giant ego-attitude" band story.

Sorry never made it to that level of assholeism.

7)I'm sure you've heard some real shit out there. If they ask you for an opinion, how do you say, "It sucks", with out actually saying that it sucks?

You have to break down the problem with the sound to individual issues and address them one at a time, that way your being constructive and not a critic.

8)With all of the "Indie" labels and internet action out there today, do you think this helps or hurts the music biz...or is Metallica just paranoid......?

Helps musicians on local levels, overall on large scale, the music biz is suffering from the changes going on. its going to take a while for everything to settle into place.

9)How do you think the internet could better accommodate the musicians today?

Squash Radio has begun to offer a internet radio system that I think can help musicians a lot.

10)Do "A&R" guys even scout bands anymore?

Not like they used to, definitely on a lower level.

11)Name one of your personal instruments that you would never get rid of and why?

I have a few I wouldn't part with, one being my 63 deluxe reverb, the tone can't be beat.

12)What do you think is the best way for new bands to promote themselves today?

PLAY, PLAY PLAY everywhere you can and saturate the internet and your local community with your music and name.

13)Your most humbling experience while playing a gig?

Getting way too drunk at a party and forgetting all my own lyrics during the set.

14)What's the funniest thing you've ever seen while at a gig?

We were playing born to be wild at Mutleys Place when a group of bikers decided it was time to ride threw the club up to the stage, scared the shit out of the audience and the owner.

15)What are future plans for the studio?

We are panning on updating our mastering and editing system and then adding a 2 inch analog tape machine.

16)What do you think are the biggest problems/mistakes, bands make when coming into the studio?

Unprepared, they need to know what there goal is and also have there equipment in proper working order.

17)Name a couple of bands that you think might be worth listening too?

Rory Gallager, Tommy Bolin

18) What band out there now, makes you wanna puke?

Several current rap artists who have nothing to say and no real music behind their rap.

19) Where do you see music 15-20 yrs down the road?

Unfortunately if technology continues, I see it becoming a unemotional, commercial, digitized, money making scene with no real musicians, songwriters or melodic structure left in it. I hope I'm wrong.
