Terry M. West: Director

1. Give us a little background on yourself, when did you decide that filmmaking was what you wanted to do?

I grew up in Texas and writing and acting were my first passions. I played with 8mm cameras as a teenager, but becoming a filmmaker seemed like an impossible dream. I decided to try my hand at filmmaking in 1999 when I was reviewing micro budget horror.

2. Who inspired you to become a filmmaker?

George A. Romero. The man is the most talented filmmaker out there. Period. Even his mistakes are noteworthy.

3. Terry M. West AKA "the FILM BASTARD", what exactly does it mean to be a "film bastard"?

Being a Film Bastard means getting your movies made at any cost and not giving a damn about critcis or naysayers. It means making movies for yourself and having pride in realizing the creation. I give props to any filmmaker who gets a project done, whether it is worth a damn or not. Because it shows passion and commitment. One of the most committed filmmakers was Ed Wood. He would be the numero uno film bastard. He had a vision, and he saw it through, regardless of the beatings he took.

4. Tell us about your latest project "Satan's Schoolgirls".

SATAN'S SCHOOLGIRLS is a very micro, cheesy movie I produced in my down time. I was on a sabbatical from Flesh for the Beast and was basically prodded into working by friends. Because I wanted total control over my project, I decided the most accessible thing I could produce was a cheapie, T&A horror vehicle. Satan's Schoolgirls is bascially the kind of movie I used to make for Seduction Cinema, minus the contast lesbian sex. It is a sort of parody of the films I used to make. Essentially, I decided to cash in on the reputation I gained at Seduction Cinema, but I think this film is much better than the films I produced in the past. Yeah, it's low fi, adolescent, offensive... but people have been clamoring for it for awhile, and golly gee, that formula has always worked for me in the past. I think it's good. I have much more ambitous projects in the wings, but Satan's Schoolgirls is a good start. Hopefully, it will enable me to produce bigger and better projects.

5. What do you think is the most important thing for a Director to bring to the set?

An open mind to the suggestions of his crew. No man is an island.

6. What do you think is the biggest problem with Hollywood today?

A lack of faith in original concepts. Everything is a remake or homage.

7. What has been you're all-time favorite project to date?

A tie. Blood for the Muse (because it was my baby) and Flesh for the Beast, because it is out there, worldwide... Germany, England, Japan. It's global.

8. Do you have any advice to aspiring directors?

Yes, take your time and put as much creativity into your movie as possible.

9. Along with being a Director, your also an acclaimed writer. What has been your favorite writing project to date?

My novel DREG. I really want to write more, but the committment is tremendous. I am also quite proud of a script I wrote last year, DEAD AWARE. I am currently trying to get seed money to produce it.

10. Any future projects in the works? Writing and/or Directing

DEMONS OF FLESH, my horror antholgy, rolls soon. And I was also the lead role in Joseph M. Monk's THE BUNKER. That was a blast. I am also talking about acting in more films. I was also a producer on Ted Bohus' HELL ON EARTH (as well as a cameo).
