T J Nordaker: Director / Producer

1. Give us a little background on yourself, when did you decide that filmmaking was what you wanted to do?

I was brought up in Seattle Washington, which has always been a very artistic city. So growing up with productive people in a town that encouraged creativity certainly helped.

I have always loved movies but I think it was around 23 or so that I started to really want to be a part of making them.

2. Who inspired you to become a filmmaker?

I grew up with punk rock ethos, the do-it-yourself mentality. So naturally I was really inspired by films that were made for next to nothing by average schmoes like myself. I have always been a horror nut so I was very taken by movies like BAD TASTE, THE EVIL DEAD and THE TOXIC AVENGER... anything made by people for the fun of it, using what resources they had available to them.

3. Tell us about your latest film "The Janitor". I had the wonderful opportunity to be one of the first to screen the rough cut of the film, and I loved it!

THE JANITOR is an ultra-low budget splatter film about a psychotic janitor that goes on a killing spree at the office he works in. It just came out on DVD through ELITE Entertainment, so all you sickos that are into blood, comedy and nudity might want to check it out.

4. Along with Andy Signore, you directed, produced and acted in the Janitor, was it difficult to wear so many hats?

Sure, it's a lot of stress. But you have to do what you have to do to get the movie made. There is no room for egos when your are working with low budgets. John Carreon who played "Willis" was also the DP and co-producer. Everyone had multiple jobs.

5. What aspects of your character Dave did you identify with?

My role was more of a cameo, I try not to piss on people in real life.

6. What is the funniest thing that has ever happened on a set?

Wow, it's been so long now...probably shooting the gang bang scene, just because it was so surreal. All that stuff is included in the Documentary on the making of the film that is included on the DVD.

7. From an actor’s standpoint what is the most important thing a Director can bring to the set?

I would say confidence. An actor needs to feel safe in the director's hands. Being wishy-washy doesnt help, actors like working with people that know what they want but also will give them the freedom to bring something to the table.

8. From a director’s standpoint, what is the most important thing for an actor to bring to the set?

I like actors that aren't afraid to improvise and try new things. I look at a script as a blueprint, it's not set in stone. Sometimes paraphrasing your lines or adlibbing gives a better performance.

Showing up on time is cool too.

9. Any new projects in the works? Give us the scoop!

I have been working on a script but it has kinda been put on the backburner because I have been concentrating on music lately. I play in a band here in LA called MODERN MOVEMENT and I also play in an acoustic band called THE CHARLES SHAW PROJECT with my girlfriend Aimee, you horror kids might recognize her from Return of the Living Dead 4 & 5.

Sit tight, another movie is in the works...

10. What is the biggest problem with Hollywood today?

Remakes

11. Do you have any advice for aspiring filmmakers?

If you want to be a filmmaker... make a film. Just do it. I feel like a broken record saying that in every interview but that is the best advice I can give. You have to bite the bullet and just jump right in. Don't be one of these 40 year old guys walking around that are still talking about making a movie one day.

12. When all is said and done, what 3 things would you like for people to remember about you?

That I was an immaculate, omnipotent and irreproachable saint. All Knowing, All powerful.

13. Here's where we give you a word or phrase and you give us the first thoughts that pop into your mind.
