SOMETHING OLD:
BLACK
SABBATH SELF-TITLED VERTIGO 1970
It was
Friday the 13th, February,1970 that Heavy Metal was born. It was the day
that Black Sabbath' self titled debut album was unleashed on an
unsuspecting British public that terrified them so very near to death
that some shops would not carry it. When it was put out in America,
it was by way of Warner Brothers Records, and with a slightly different
track listing, which consists of a bonus track "Evil Woman", originally by
an American group called "Crow" in 1969. There is one other track on this
lp that is also a cover song called "Warning" that was originally done by
Aynsley Dunbar, a session drummer and released as a single. After it got
the Black Sabbath treatment, it wound up being 10 minutes
long.
So anywho,the title track "Black
Sabbath" starts this metal monster off, and if this song's intro
fails to frighten you, then the poem on the inner sleeve and the inverted
cross are sure to help the process along.
Then is "The
Wizard", which finds Ozzy playing a harmonica, one of only a few
such rare occassions he has ever done so. Another example would be
"Who Are You" from their 1973 metal masterpiece "Sabbath, Bloody
Sabbath" on which Ozzy plays a mellotron synthesizer, one note at a
time.
Third we have "Wasp/Behind The Wall Of
Sleep/Bassically/N.I.B." , and yes folks, for those of you who have never
heard this stuff, that is all one song, just in four
parts.
Next we have the very first song these guys ever
wrote, "Wicked World". A song so aptly titled, because it was true
when it was written back in 1969, and it is just as much still the truth
today.
For selection #5, "A Bit Of Finger/Sleeping
Village/Warning", which includes a hellacious rip roaring guitar
solo by Tony Iommi, it will slowly rob you of your virgin soul and
drag you straight down into the pit of hell.
Then we have the
final cut, the afore mentioned "Evil Woman". This song is now widely
available in America on cd re-issues of this album, especially in the
"BLACK BOX" set containing all 8 albums featuring the original line-up of
Ozzy Osbourne:Vocals,Tony Iommi: Guitar, Geezer Butler:Bass Guitar, and
Bill Ward: Drums and Vocals on "It's Alright" from the "Technical Ecstacy"
lp, and "Swinging The Chain" from the "Never Say Die" lp. Anyway, the
first Black Sabbath lp and Heavy Metal turn 36 on Monday,13th
February,2006.
I ALSO WISH TO CONGRADULATE BLACK SABBATH ON
THEIR LONG OVERDUE INDUCTION INTO THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME THIS
YEAR. WHAT TOOK THOSE STUPID MOTHERFUCKERS SO GODDAMN LONG TO
GET THEIR HEADS OUT OF THEIR COLLECTIVE ASSES? THOSE SMELLY CUNTS

SOMETHING
NEW:
TWISTED SISTER LIVE
AT WACKEN-THE REUNION EAGLE VISION 2005
OK, I know a ton of
people are scracthing their collective heads right now
going, "WHODAFUCKISTWISTEDFUCKIN'SISTER?". Well, my fellow
punters, sit back and listen to this weeks heavy metal lesson. If you
are a person in the afore mention category and are over 25 years old,
you have a serious fucking problem.
Oh yeah, back to my little
review. So this beast is a 2 sided disc. On one side is a dvd of the
concert at Wacken Open Air Heavy Metal Festival 2003 in Wacken, Germany in
front of 40,000 Sick-Mother-Fuckers!!!!!!!!!
The dvd side is cool
and does kick major ass, but I am here to write about the music side, the
cd side, called "LIVE...PAST&PRESENT", which is a compilation of
recordings from various venues over the years.
First up is "Bad
Boys Of Rock And Roll", cool fucking shit right here! A cover of
Steppenwolf's late 1960's hit "Born To Be Wild", and a killer version at
that. "I'll Never Grow Up, Now" is a bonus track from the reissue of their
first lp "Under The Blade". "You Know I Cry" is a ballad, I fucking hate
ballads! This finishes the stuff from the Detroit, MI / Portchester, NY
May 1980 portion.
"YOU CAN'T STOP ROCK AND ROLL" is next. I love
this song because it is loud, fast and insane. The title alone speaks the
truth in volume. This is the only track from the Marquee in London,
England, December 1982. Wacken Open Air, 2nd August 2003, Wacken,
Germany "WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW (SURE CAN HURT YOU)", "THE KIDS ARE
BACK", "STAY HUNGRY", "LIKE A KNIFE IN THE BACK", "I AM,I'M ME", "THE
FIRE STILL BURNS". I won't write on this part, it speaks for itself
on the video portion, except for "I AM,I'M ME" which is only on the cd
side. Great song, I dig it. TWISTED FUCKING SISTER KICKS SERIOUS
ASS!!!

SOMETHING FROM OUR JURASSIC
PERIOD:
THE KILLER HIS-SELF JERRY
LEE LEWIS
Well folks, earlier in my article, I made
comments about inbred retards. No, Jerry is not inbred. You see, This
hellraising, piano playing, rock and roll pioneer actually married
his 13 year old cousin back in the 1950's. Jerry Lee Lewis is just as
remembered for what he did onstage as well as for what he did off
stage. Most of his ex-wives died mysteriously. Their deaths are all listed
as suicides or accidental deaths, thus the reason he is called "THE
KILLER".
Jerry Lee Lewis' music is instrumental in the
founding of what we have today both from his actual songs as well as his
showmanship. If you have never heard "Great Balls Of Fire",
"Breathless", "High School Confidential", or "Whole Lotta Shakin'
Goin' on", then you certainly are from a long ,long time ago, in a
galaxy far, far away...............May the force be with you, Luke
Skywalker. Jerry Lee Lewis was well known for setting his piano ablaze
during his encore performances of "Great Balls Of Fire" at the
end of his concerts. His attitude was that of Rock And Roll, rebellion
against the stuff and stuck up snobby establishment, and the motto is as
follows: "If you don't like me, FUCK YOU!!!
Until next time you crazy
fuckers............SCHOOLS' OUT Ace Diamond |
