Hello, well just by looking at the hair I’m afraid that this will be another sad and ugly attempt to
bring an Anime series to the Big screen, I have to say I will see it any way, I’m a big fan or DB, BUT
I’m not sure about this film just for I have seen so far, Remember I may be wrong (Hope so.!)

    BR,
    Masaru

Dear sweet crap >_> Worst thing ever…He is white, and he isn’t even wearing the symbolic orange gi…A sad sad day this is.

  4. e-man Says:

I am incredibly glad to see this poster I must say. I can easily understand everyones uncertainty with the level of film this may be. I am sure it will have it’s particular awesome scenes just like any typical blockbuster. The important matter though is that if this film generates enough of an audience (and I will follow this franchise no matter what medium) we have potential for a sequel. Far better then DragonBall but DragonBall Z! Imagine finally getting to see the Saiyan saga play out. Vegeta and Goku blazing about the sky duking it out. Regardless of the worst of my fears for how bad this movie can be I will surely support the stories and character backgrounds that were my first fuel for becoming a damn good artist. The only message I could say to the directors of the flick would be “Never ever make animal people who are dressed like humans.” I think they are smart enough to avoid them already.

  5. e-man Says:

By the way it doesn’t matter that he’s WHITE because Goku was a freaking ALIEN! -Do you think it makes more sense for him to be some kind of Asian Alien!?!

  6. dbz-fan Says:

awww man i was lookin forward to this movie too, dont think ima waste the money for a movie ticket now, just wait to see what others say about it when it comes out

  7. Goku Says:

    Hey e-Man,

what you can’t imagine an Asian-Alien??

Mmmm, perhaps it’s because star wars doesn’t have Asian characters either - you’ve precisely named the problem.

Okay, so Superman is Alien, why is he white? If it’s because of his facial features - then Goku’s gotta be Asian.

No one argues superman’s white, yet so many fans think Goku is Asian - think about it there’s a good reason for it.

Here’s a hint, Goku is Japanese translation for the Monkey King, which was a character from a Chinese Novel. That’s why Goku started off with a tail, cause he has monkey like qualities. Think about it….

  8. MBS Says:

In Dragonball the fact the goku is an alien hasnt even been revealed yet. Im sure it was also alot easier for the filmmakers because there are no aliens, no flying, etc. And im sure they will change or remove alot of characters like the animal people. If they did DBZ it would be alot harder for them to have Cell/Piccolo/Freiza/etc

  9. Dissapointed Says:

I must say that I’m afraid how bad this movie can be. I believe that’s really bad choice for Goku. Someone said that producers hasn’t revealed that Goku is an alien… THEY DON’T HAVE TO!!! Let’s face the truth… attempts of bringing anime to a life is being made mostly for fans and only someone who is fan of perticular show would understand importance of keeping all the details and symbolic featurs of a product. Fans don’t really want to see something “new” out of old good Dragon Ball. Notice that many marvel productions brought dissapointment, as well as most of attempts to bring video game to silver screen (which the most successful in my opinion was Silent Hill).

  10. Skeleton Man Says:

“Do you think it makes more sense for him to be some kind of Asian Alien!?!”

As opposed to a white alien which is perfectly normal, right?

  11. SAD Says:

A White Goku in a modern t-shirt palming a dragonball suspended in the air? Millions of dragonball fans around the world (including myself) are crying.

  12. gokulou Says:

I dont think it really matters what nationality Goku is, as there is no comon geography in the tv show, or the comic book. The only thing that remotely resembles a real world culture is the ‘Red Ribben Army’ and the Russians. I just pray the movie is good enough for a sequal, because Vegetta, deserves to be on the big screen.

  13. KyHoLe Says:

stop bitching about races, watch the flick, then bitch about its quality.

  14. HelderSSJ4 Says:

Goku rocks…but this guy…this poster. I expect much more , it looks like a low budget film.

  15. Aya Says:

The heck? The hair alone looks bad, the clothing, dear lord, and even the dragon ball looks pathetic. Oh dear, -sweat drop- and don’t they realize that a young Goku is a little boy, not some 20 year old man… He is so not little xD; And where’s his tail? o_o

  16. Shayla Says:

Hm, well, I’m not gonna completely let go on this movie for some movie poster.
Just give it up people, there’s NO WAY they can make the anima characters come to life as they are. It’s obvious that anyone in half their costumes and with their exact hair would look RIDICULOUS.
I just hope for good acting, good action and a well put storyline.

Goku’s original outfit would look silly to me live action. It would seem like a cheap halloween costume. xD

Dunno, my two cents. I just figure people need to understand that bringing the exact anime to
a live action motion picture is impossible without making it campy as hell.

  17. Fat John Says:

Okay, can’t pass a whole lot of judgement simply based on a poster…but…

Goku, in Dragonball, is like, SIX. Chatwin is, what, in his mid-twenties? They could of at LEAST found a fifteen or sixteen year old actor, to keep on the fact that Goku was a child in this period. I know it would be impossible for someone six - ten to pull off the role, but come on.

Honestly, from the poster, that’s about all the judgement I can pass. Hopefully, Piccolo is good. Since he’s always been one of my favorite Dragonball/Z/GT characters.

  18. Sal Says:

Goku has to be a white person. I personally would have never perceived him to be anything else. The only thing odd about him would be the hair and…honestly thats not the wildest thing out of the series and wigs have been made before. Chatwin’s hair doesn’t really match, but it will do. I’m not saying he has to be white or anything due to racism, but I’m saying it because of the way he acted in the TV show/anime. Chi-Chi seemed to be the only downright Asian in the whole series. And guess what, they have that right in the film.
Compare Chi-Chi to Goku and tell me who is more of an Asian.

As for character choice, Chatwin does feel too old to be playing the part of Goku during the whole King Piccolo Saga. At that time Goku was like 8 and Chatwin is what…24? They indeed could have picked someone younger but being that companies want money, they’re going to throw out a name to get people interested. They could have at least dressed him in the Orange outfit that he ALWAYS wears.

Lastly, MBS had posted how it would make it easier to make the film about the Dragonball series and not DBZ due to flight and the Characters of it (Frieza/Cell/Piccolo).
    1. Dragonball has flying in it too and the fact that this movie is taking place during the King Piccolo Saga means that not only will King Piccolo be flying in the air, but so will Tien and Chiaotzu (if they are in it). Not to mention the fact that Goku has already obtained the Flying Nimbus Cloud.
    2. Uh, King Piccolo looks exactly like Piccolo from DBZ, hes just a bit older. So for the cast of characters, it can happen. The hardest part would be the Transformations of Frieza and Cell…only hard part for Piccolo would be the regeneration…thank god for Special Effects!

  19. son goku Says:

it should have been made like the finalfantasy advent children! making it like this sickens me.. if they ever thought of changing it and doing it full CG that is better compare on what i saw in this freakin poster >.

  20. Rob F. Says:

James Marsters would be a better Freeza than Piccolo…

  21. alfred Says:

I don’t think this is real because the movie is on post-production and the posters, commercial and propaganda it’ made one time the movie is 100%complete

  22. Rachael Says:

Actually Goku is not 6 or 8 hes in his early to mid teens ast this point. He just looked young in the comics at that point due to artistic choices.

The fact that hes white doesnt bother me. The fact that he has blue eyes and looks kinda like a wapanese freak does.

  23. Alan Says:

I definitely think this poster is real, Fox has asked most of the sites who have posted this to take them down… I think these were early promo posters — probably nowhere near final posters.

  24. Brian Corder Says:

Yeah, Fox didn’t ask us to pull the poster down, but many of the other sites were asked.

  25. Adam Walker Says:

What happened to the title “Dragonball Z”???

  26. TrueDragonFan Says:

I don’t care that Goku is white, he sort of looked white in the amine.
The poster (oh dear…) it looks so cheesy. Goku is meant to be a goofy, fun loving guy-he’s not like the other Z fighters. Chatwin looks too serious and evil to play the realy Goku.
Even if Goku was 6 or 8 or even in his mid-teens, Chatwin is a grown man! And he cannot pull off a teenager.

  27. Timothyology Says:

I’m not sure what to think of the poster..but I’m pretty sure that they’ll do fine with the movie…i mean…if they’ve got enough special effects to make 100% CG look real (witness Transformers, FF: The Spirits Within) then they can certainly do all they need to this movie. Can’t wait!

  28. xian Says:

The closest thing we’ll have to a good DBZ-style live action movie is Volcano High.

  29. ss4howse Says:

I think it will be good for people who watch movies to be entertained. Not for people who worship DB, DBZ, DBGT. I love Dragonball Z the best, but when I found out about SS4 in DBGT I couldn’t wait to see it. Same feeling for this movie. It’s the goal of advancing the show. (THE ENTERTAINMENT) Not picking it to death of what is wrong.
If you want Goku in his Orange Gi, then watch the movie Dragonball: The Magic Begins - Then you will appreciate what you are getting. Here is the list of characters for this movie.
Monkey Boy - Laugh while you can! Hahahaha! Seriously though, this moderately invincible fighter is a perfect example why home schooling is dangerous.
Westwood - Brigand with a parrot named Snow White. He roams the land, killing people for their meager belongings (this is Southeast Asia). Believe it or not, he is one of the good guys!
Turtle Man - Lecherous old coot that wears the shell of an endangered species on his back.
Seetoe - She had this whole Indiana Jones/cowgirl thing going on in the beginning, it was weird.
Jade - Young girl. Pretty much useless except that she is the sole surviving member of her village.
The Pig-Headed Wizard - Descendent of the Pig Fairy (eh, er, what?) who can change his shape at will. He is a pervert, so a good measure of this talent is probably put to use doppleganging women he finds attractive.
Grandpa - To Monkey Boy. Look for the man with the big hair and birth control glasses.
King Horn - Okay, other than the fact that he can pass something three inches in diameter through his body (you know what I mean) and insists on wearing a massive latex mask, what do we really know about the movie’s antagonist?
Horn’s Army - Dozens of shiny silver people led by two evil captains. Zebrata is a huge, sunglass-wearing brute and Malila is an androgynous blonde. Both die, along with the troops.

people are whining that Goku shouldn’t be white…

funny,,,… he doesn’t look very Asian in the anime.

  31. Jessica Says:

I’m excited about this movie. I really love DBZ and I’m not going to go to this movie and bag it out on all the ways it isn’t “true to the original”. I’m going to go and enjoy a wikked movie loosely based in the Dragon Ball world. Hey with no more Manga coming out I’m so gonna enjoy what I do get!
I’m a Star Trek fan too and I’ve gotten over JJ Abrams messing around with the Original Trek!!

So I think everyone should just go see it and IF you don’t like it well thens the time to bitch about it. And seriously its like $15 for a ticket?

youre looking for a tail?? its in the front not in the back..stop whining about the race of the lead character, and besides there’s no use of arguing about it because they’re already started filming the movie..let’s just wait and see if the lead actor have perform well in the movie..

  33. Smokin&DBZ Says:

I know everyone is worried about a bad movie, but let’s face it: if you are a DB/Z fan than you have to support this movie so that we can get a big budget DBZ movie, which would be far greater than a DB movie. I say that everyone should quit bitching until the trailer actually comes out. We havent seen any movie footage so how would you know its going to be bad.

  34. KingReef Says:

I want to encourage the production of films like this, if it can be done well with comics from the USA as they have, then why not anime. It may take a few tries to get it right, so I encourage the trying of it.

It must be a difficult task!

    Break a leg!

What do you have to say?
