Wanted is a 2008 action film loosely based on the comic book miniseries Wanted by Mark Millar. The film is directed by Timur Bekmambetov he’s Kazakh action stylist who made the 2004 international thriller “Night Watch” and the equally mad 2006 follow-up “Day Watch”. Wanted stars James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman, Thomas Kretschmann, Konstantin Khabensky and Angelina Jolie.

Synopsis:Wesley Gibson (James McAvoy) is offered the opportunity to seek revenge for the murder of his father, a member of a thousand-year-old group of assassins called the Fraternity who follow death orders issued by the Loom of Fate. The group’s leader, Sloan (Morgan Freeman), invites Gibson to follow in his father’s footsteps. Sloan appoints assassin Fox (Angelina Jolie) to mentor the young man.

An over medicated and clearly overworked man named Wesley (Atonement’s James McAvoy) who hates his life, his girlfriend cheats on him “with his best friend”, his broke, his work supervisor is a jerk. Then Fox “Angelina Jolie” shows up to tell Wesley he’s destined to join a secret society of good-guy assassins who also happen to be weavers. Then, as Loom monitor Morgan Freeman explains it, it’s up to the assassins to ”kill one and save a thousand.” Also offering him a change too get back at the people who killed his father.

And now its time to train Wesley and you think the army or boot camp is hard you have not seen anything yet. They train with real cold steel and hot lead, with them making bullets curve out of the way of there heads. But the training help mold Wesley into the killing machine that the Fraternity needs. The first hit Wesley is assigned to, he ends up not pulling the trigger and questions Fox “How do we know who is good or bad?” She answers with a story of how her father “a judge” was assassinated. An assassin was sent to their house, he killed her father in front of her by setting him on fire. He then branded her on the neck. It turns out that the assassin had been targeted for killing, but he was not killed. Fox says that’s what the Fraternity does. Kill one to save a thousand. Wesley then proceeds to kill his target. He is given a few more targets to take out.

The action scenes in the movie are pretty sick, some of the best action scenes I have seen in a movie this year. They were a bit similar to The Matrix, however when you see a scene in The Matrix the computer graphics are obvious. When you see a scene from Wanted your in the back of your seat saying “Wow how did they do that?” Best of all, it’s another guns a blazing Jolie movie. The way she works the guns in Wanted left me wanting more. B
