BURBANK, CA – On October 7th, Anchor Bay Entertainment bows the Special Edition DVD of the award-winning cult sensation Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer. Starring horror icon Robert Englund aka “Freddy Krueger” and fresh from exclusive theatrical engagements in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Toronto, the Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer DVD will give fans an insider’s glimpse into the making of this contemporary horror classic with hours of behind-the-”screams” footage, interviews with the filmmakers and 11 deleted scenes. SRP is a mild-mannered $26.97.
Starring newcomer Trevor Matthews (who also produced the film) and Rachel Skarsten (American Pie Presents: Beta House, “Birds of Prey”), Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer takes the “zero-to-hero” concept to a whole new level of fun and fright. As a young boy, Jack (Matthews) saw his parents brutally murdered by monsters. Now he toils as a plumber, is saddled with an annoying girlfriend (Skarsten), attends therapy sessions that accomplish absolutely nothing, and is enrolled in night classes where he barely manages to stay awake.
But when his professor (Englund) accidentally unleashes an ancient curse and begins to transform into a hideous monster, Jack must put down his plunger, prepare to do battle with the forces of evil, and confront his destiny once and for all.
Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer may be a monster’s nightmare, but it’s also fast becoming the critics’ darling. FilmThreat.com said “In its affection for its genre, Jack Brooks is a pure, refreshing entry,” while Mr. Disgusting of Bloody Disgusting declared: “You want laughs, action, blood, guts, slime, creatures and a kick-ass anti-hero? You’ll find it all in Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer!”
Following its North American premiere at the Slamdance Film Festival, Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer started knocking ‘em dead around the world – as an official selection at such renowned festivals as Montreal’s Fantasia Film Fest, the Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival, the Brussels Festival of Fantastic Film, the NatFilm Film Festival, the San Sabastien Horror Film Festival, the Kingston Canadian Film Festival and the Stockholm Film Festival. Recently, the film was named winner of the Carnet Jove Jury Award (“Midnight X-Treme”) at the prestigious Sitges-Catalonian International Film Festival, and a Gold Medal for Excellence in Film Music for composer Ryan Shore.
Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer was directed by Jon Knautz (Moment of Truth), and produced by Neil Bregman, Trevor Matthews and Patrick White. John Ainslie and Jon Knautz wrote the screenplay from a story by Ainslie, Knautz, Matthews and White.
Bonus features on the Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer DVD boast such monstrously fun extras as:
