Universal Pictures just released this brand new movie still from the upcoming film “Cirque du Freak” by director Paul Weitz and starring Salma Hayek (Once Upon a Time in Mexico), John C. Reilly (Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story), Josh Hutcherson (Journey to the Center of the Earth) and Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man 3).
Synopsis: Cirque Du Freak tells the frightening tale of a boy who unknowingly breaks a 200-year-old truce between two warring factions of vampires. Pulled into a fantastic life of misunderstood sideshow freaks and grotesque creatures of the night, one teen will vanish from the safety of a boring existence and fulfill his destiny in a place drawn from nightmares.
14-year-old Darren (Chris Massoglia) was like most kids in his suburban neighborhood. He hung out with his best friend, got decent grades and usually stayed out of trouble. But when he and his buddy stumble upon a traveling freak show, things begin to change inside Darren. That’s the exact moment when a vampire named Larten Crepsley (John C. Reilly) turns him into something, well, bloodthirsty.
Newly undead, he joins the Cirque Du Freak, a touring sideshow filled with monstrous creatures from a snakeboy and a wolfman to a bearded lady (Salma Hayek) and a gigantic barker (Ken Watanabe). As Darren flexes his newfound powers in this dark world, he becomes a treasured pawn between the vampires and their deadlier counterparts. And while trying to survive, one boy will struggle to keep their brewing war from devouring what’s left of his humanity.

first off please get the facts stright he didnt break a truce he became a vampire to save his best friends life then his best friend figures out wat happend and swears to kill him then u later find out that Des. Tiny (destiny) set it all up and started the war for his own personal amusment

In response to bryan… This is the movie version, it is obviously going to be different. You can tell from when it says this… “he becomes a treasured pawn between the vampires and their deadlier counterparts.” If you recall… nothing happened in the books that can describe darren as a “treasured pawn”.

I hope they don’t murder the storyline, the book was really good and it would be a pity if they ruined the story with a crappy movie version. The image looks good though, really hopw the movie doesn’t chop off too much of the good stuff.

I hope they make a series of movies, to keep the good parts, and I bet then the movie and the book will stand as equals…. I just cant see John C. Reilly playing as the ever-serious Mr. Crepsley. I can see him acting like he was on Talladega Nights, or any other movie he was in with that other guy….

To correct the earlier posts **Spoiler**. There was a truce between vampires not to blood anybody young. Darren “unknowingly” broke this…as the article says. And as to the “pawn” idea. Did you read the last book? Des Tiny used his sons to create a war to destroy the vampires and the vampaneze completely. Thats pretty much the defintion of a pawn.

I have read the series (as well as other Darren Shann series) Love love love it. I am waiting VERY impatiently for this movie to be released. I see it being released in in the Netherlands as early as August 2009, and UK Oct. 2009. I see nothing of a USA release. DON’T MAKE ME HAVE TO CROSS THE POND TO GO SEE THIS MOVIE, UNIVERSAL! Also, hard to imagine John C. Rielly as Crepsly. MY first choice would have been Bill Nighy. He would be an amazing Crepsly!

Ok, on IMDB.com, it didn’t say a release date for the US for the Cirque Du Freak movie. Instead, it showed a whole bunch of release dates for places in Europe and the UK and stuff. IS CIRQUE DU FREAK COMING OUT IN THE UNITED STATES?!?!?!?!?! BECAUSE I AM VERY SCARED!!!!

I really hope this turns out alright. The books were great, but like everyone else said, it just keeps getting pushed and pushed. I don’t think it’s coming out in the US, because I’ve only seen release dates for like…Lithuania and whatnot. Kinda of a bummer. Someone should start a petition for this to come to the USA. :)

are ya’ll retarded, The truce is of friendship that is supposedley broken by Darren when he was created by Mr. Crepsley to save his best friends life. The pawn part is true but wont come into play later on when Darren dies (sorry spoiler). He is crucial to the end of humanity along with Steve Leopard. the date has been pushed back even farther. 2010, yay, it was going to be released on my birthday so im pissed, of course it comes out in america for one it is a Universal movie so duh, and two It is being made in Louisianna so yet again duh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if you want to discuss this then email me at C-Nets_Leader@Hotmail.com

It has nothing to do with New Moon, Anna. They obviously like irritating others who actually want this movie to come out…so they postpone it forever.
Also, they might not have it completely finished. You’ve got to remember, there are a lot of things that have to be added to the movie, special effects, foley effects, so on and so forth.

I really, really, really cannot see John C Reilly as the wise and quick Larten Crepsley. He just won’t pull it off at all and am worried about the film already. I hope it kicks the ass of Twilight because everyone likes that toss film that has no real storyline. Ah well we’ll have to wait and see!
