Sony to Produce The B Team

Variety reports that Sony Pictures Entertainment has won the bidding war for the Adam McKay-directed comedy The B Team that will star Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. Screenwriter Christ Henchy, who recently wrote the script for the upcoming Ferrell comedy Land of the Lost, is teaming up with McKay to write The B Team with Ferrell and McKay’s production company, Gary Sanchez Productions, and Mosaic producing. Sony has not set a release date for the film, but it is expected to go into production as quickly as the filmmakers can get it ready. Warner Bros, according to a report from Variety, has greenlit DC Comic’s “Suicide Squad” for getting the big-screen treatment as a potential franchise, bringing villains as opposed to heroes to the forefront this time. A mix of obscure and well-known DC supervillains, the off-the-books Suicide Squad must bury their interpersonal conflicts and villainous egos in order to survive and hopefully, shave a few years off their sentences if they manage to survive. The Neverending Story Continues with Remake

Warner Brothers and two top production companies are in the early stages of a reboot of the 1980s children’s fantasy classic The Neverending Story. The Kennedy/Marshall Co. (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) and Leonard DiCaprio’s company Appian Way are in discussions with Warner Bros., who recently acquired rights to the property, about making a modern version of the film. Synopsis: By tying thousands of balloon to his home, 78-year-old Carl Fredricksen sets out to fulfill his lifelong dream to see the wilds of South America. Variety says that studios trying to fill 2010 release slates have been given two very good options: an Adam McKay-directed action comedy starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg, or a drama starring Matt Damon that will have him working alongside his Bourne Ultimatum screenwriter George Nolfi. The Damon picture, The Adjustment Bureau, is a contemporary science fiction romance film that is loosely based on a Phillip K. Dick short story. Nolfi will be making his directing debut with Bureau, which will begin production by late summer.
