Green Lantern Gets Release Date

Warner Bros. has announced release dates for a slew of upcoming projects, including the highly-anticipated big screen adaptation of DC Comics’ “Green Lantern”, which will hit theaters December 17th, 2010. The story will follow test pilot Hal Jordan, who is selected by the alien Green Lantern Corps to become one of them after the death of one of their greatest members, Abin Sur. Hal is chosen for being “utterly honest and without fear”, and must uphold the oath of the Corps to “let no evil [...] escape my sight” as he battles evil both on Earth as well as across the universe. Yogi Bear Gets Director

The Hollywood Reporter says that long-time visual effects supervisor Eric Brevig has signed on to direct the film adaptation of the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon Yogi Bear. Brevig, who recently directed Journey to the Center of the Earth under Warner Brothers, says Yogi Bear will be featured in 3-D using a combination of live action and CG similar to Alvin and the Chipmunks. Yogi Bear will also be produced under the Warner Bros. name. Brevig’s visual effects resume includes blockbusters such as The Day After Tomorrow, Pearl Harbor, Men in Black, Total Recall and The Abyss. Stargate Universe Cast Announced

Entertainment Weekly has the rounded-out cast of the upcoming “Stargate” series coming to the Sci-Fi Channel, titled “Stargate Universe”, which started production last week in Vancouver. The latest installment in the science fiction franchise, “Stargate Universe” follows a group of survivors stranded on an ship called the Destiny, created by the alien race called the Ancients that accidentally ends up stranded in the farthest reaches of space and must find their way back to Earth. The latest big rumor surrounding Hollywood remakes connects horror movie director Sam Raimi and the Oscar nominated Chinese film House of Flying Daggers. I’m afraid so, folks. Industry magazine Production Weekly listed a House of Flying Daggers remake in their December issue with Raimi set to produce alongside Josh Donen (The Quick and the Dead, Drag Me to Hell) and Ryan Carroll (Toolbox Murders).
