Constantin Film just sent us the first official movie still from the upcoming film “Pope Joan” by director Sonke Wortmann and starring John Goodman (The Princess and the Frog, Alabama Moon), David Wenham (The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, 300), Iain Glen (Harry Brown), Anatole Taubman (Quantum of Solace), Johanna Wokalek and Suzanne Bertish (Rome).
Film Synopsis: A 9th century woman of English extraction born in the German city of Ingelheim disguises herself as a man and rises through the Vatican ranks.

I’m Donna Woolfolk Cross, the author of the novel on which this movie is based. Johanna Wokalek (the actress pictured in the photo) is WONDERFUL in this part–as I learned when I was on-set for filming in both Germany and Morocco. I haven’t seen the final cut of the movie yet, for it’s still in post-production, but having seen the script and met the director, I have very high hopes.
