Variety is reporting that Morgan Freeman is in talks to star in “Red”, the comic adaptation of the Vertigo/DC title from Summit Entertainment that will also star Bruce Willis.

Erich Hoeber and Jon Hoeber are writing the script, and Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian are producing. Gregory Noveck from DC will serve as executive producer.

“Red” was written by Warren Ellis and illustrated by Cully Hamner, about a former black-ops CIA killer in retirement who finds that he has been marked for death and goes “red”, meaning on the hunt, to defend himself. The three-book series was published in 2003 and 2004 from Wildstorm, an imprint of DC comics.
