Variety is reporting that acclaimed director Sam Raimi (the “Evil Dead” and “Spider-Man” films) has signed on to direct “Warcraft,” a live-action film adaptation of “World Of Warcraft”, the fantasy video game franchise. Legendary Pictures and Blizzard Entertainment are mounting the film, with Warner Brothers distributing and co-financing. Charles Roven, who produced “The Dark Knight”, is attached to produce. The “Warcraft” universe, first launched in 1994 with the first game, is about a fantasy war between the two races, the Horde and the Alliance. The game has since developed a global fanbase and expanded the franchise to include books and comics based in the world of the game. Stay tuned…

Convergence Entertainment (The King of Fighters) has gained the rights to produce live-action adaptations of the “Gungrave” and “Lone Wolf” properties. Tim Kwok will produce both projects.
