Karl Urban has signed on to join the cast of the live-action adaptation of “Priest” as the lead villain, according to a report by The Hollywood Reporter.

Directed by Scott Steward and adapted from the TokyoPop English translations of the Korean manga by Cory Goodman, the film is set in a futuristic post-apocalyptic world ravaged by a war between humanity and vampires.

Paul Bettany stars as a warrior priest and vampire hunter tracks down a roving band of murderous vampires who have kidnapped his niece. He is aided by a sheriff Cam Gigandet (Twilight) and warrior priestess (Maggie Q). Urban will play the head of the vampires, the villainous Black Hat, who was once a priest and hunter himself.

The project begins production this week in Los Angeles.
