Variety is reporting that “The Devil’s Rejects” and “H2″ director Rob Zombie will be writing, directing, as well as producing a remake fo the classic 1958 horror “The Blob”, which not only launched the career of Steve McQueen, but also spawned a 1972 sequel and was also remade in 1988.

Production is set to start in spring 2010, and Zombie told Variety that while he is a huge fan of the original fan, “[his]intention is not to have a big red blobby thing, that’s the first thing I want to change, [...] That gigantic Jello-looking thing might have been scary to audiences in the 1950s, but people would laugh now. I have a totally different take, one that’s pretty dark.”
