Variety is reporting that “The Devil’s Rejects” and “H2″ director Rob Zombie will be writing, directing, as well as producing a remake fo the classic 1958 horror “The Blob”, which not only launched the career of Steve McQueen, but also spawned a 1972 sequel and was also remade in 1988. Helen Mirren and Pete Postlethwaite have signed on to join the cast of “Brighton Rock”, Rowan Joffe’s upcoming adaptation of the 1939 Graham Greene novel. Sam Riley and Andrea Riseborough are already set to star in the film, a crime story that features a waitress named Rose (Riseborough) blackmailing a gangster named Pinky (Riley) over a gangland revenge killing. Mirren and Postlethwaite will play Ida and Phil Cokery, a couple who get involved in exposing Pinkie and trying to save Rose when she gets in over her head.
