Variety.com is reporting that 20th Century Fox will be developing “The Deep Blue Goodbye”, an adaptation of the John D. MacDonald mystery series with Leonardo DiCaprio starring.

Peter Chernin, DiCaprio, and Jennifer Davisson Killoran are all onboard as producers for the project, which is being written by Dana Stevens. DiCaprio will be playing Travis McGee, a beach bum and “salvage consultant” who lives on a house boat and recovers various types of property for clients, getting into a lot of trouble at the same time.
