The fantasy/epic graphic novel series “DevaShard” has been picked up by Vanquish Motion Pictures for a film adaptation after a bidding war erupted over the Hong Kong-based publisher Fluid Comics title. Vanquish’s Jay Douglas and Nav Gupta will be producing and co-writing the feature alongside Heather Kenealy. “Underworld” franchise creator wrote the screen treatment. “DevaShard,” which premiered at the 2009 San Diego Comic-Con, is inspired by Asian mythology and crafted was created by Zen, Keith Burns and Johnny Tam. Variety.com is reporting that Paul Giamatti has signed on to play the tyrannical King John in the medieval action flick “Ironclad,” which is starting production in Wales next month. James Purefoy has already been cast to star. Jonathan English (“Minotaur”) is directing, based on a script by him, Erick Kastel and Steve McDool. Rick Benattar and Andrew Curtis are producing. The film is set in 13th-century England and follows Purefoy as a member of the formidable and legendary Knights Templar who ends up defending Rochester Castle against Giammati’s King John and his ruthless army.
