Summit Entertainment has set October 22nd, 2010 as the release date for “Red”, the big-screen espionage/action adaptation of the Wildstorm/DC Comics comic from Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner.

The film stars Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, John C. Reilly, Mary-Louise Parker, Brian Cox, Julian McMahon, Ernest Borgnine, Richard Dreyfuss, Brian Cox and James Remar. The film is about a retired former CIA assassin, who is targeted by his former employers when they decide he knows too much, but when they fail he goes on the warpath against them.

Robert Schwentke is directing, from Erich and Jon Hoeber’s script. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian are producing on “Red” alonside DC’s Gregory Noveck, who is onboard as an executive producer for the project.
