Zac Efron (“High School Musical”, “Me And Orson Welles”) has signed on to star in an adaptation of renowned comic book writer Brian Michael Bendis’s graphic novel, “Fire.”

Efron would play a college student who is recruited to be an agent of the CIA. However, he soon discovers that he has in fact been recruited into a program that actually creates expendable spies and assassins. “Fire” will be produced by Neal Moritz and David Enge for Universal Studios.

“Fire” was one of Bendis’s first works, created in 1993 and published through Caliber Comics, with Image Comics later on collecting the series into a single graphic novel. He has since gone on to write various titles, including several “Avengers” titles at Marvel Comics.

No director or other casting info has been released yet.
