The distribution rights to “Machete”, the project that grew out of a fake trailer Robert Rodriguez included in his joint project with Quentin Tarentino, “Grindhouse”, has been acquired by 20th Century Fox. Danny Trejo, a Rodriguez regular, will be returning to the title role he portrayed in the fake trailer about a machete-wielding avenger, alongside Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez. Robert Rodriguez wrote and produced “Machete,” with Rick Schwartz’s Overnight Productions financing the film. He directed it with co-director Ethan Maniquis. The actor, who plays California Senator (and husband to Kitty Walker, portrayed by Calista Flockhart) Robert McCallister in ABC’s drama ‘Brothers & Sisters,’ felt he was being underused on the show and asked the network to release him from his contract early, according to EW.com.
