Renowned New Zealand actor Temuera Morrison (“Once Were Warriors”, Jango Fett from the “Star Wars” prequel films) and New Zealand filmmaker/actor Taika Waititi have both joined the cast of Warner Bros. Pictures’ “Green Lantern.”

Morrison has been cast as Abin Sur, the alien Green Lantern Corps member responsible for Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds) joining the intergalactic courage-fueled police force. Waititi will play Hal Jordan’s close friend and confidante Tom “Pieface” Kalmaku.

The two join Reynolds, Mark Strong, Peter Sarsaard, and Blake Lively in the live-action adaptation of the DC Comics character.

Production on the film begins this week in New Orleans, with Martin Campbell (“Casino Royale”, “GoldenEye”) directing.

The film has a June 17th, 2011 release date set.
