Jennifer Love Hewitt and Jamie Kennedy, who announced in March 2009 that they were dating, have gone their separate ways, PEOPLE first reported on March 13.  The couple, who met on the set of their hit CBS show ‘Ghost Whisperer,’confirmed the breakup, but gave no further details.  It’s believed they ended the relationship in October 2009, but didn’t confirm the information until now.

Rumors arose several months ago that the actress and the comedian broke up, which the couple adamantly denied.  Other rumors circulated that Hewitt only started dating her new co-star a mere couple of months after she called off her wedding to Scottish actor Ross McCall, who guest-starred on ‘Ghost Whisperer’ in 2006, because she wanted a fun, casual relationship.

The relationship seemed to turn serious when Hewitt stayed by Kennedy’s side last year during his kidney stone procedure.  However, when she appeared on the TBS talk show ‘Lopez Tonight’ on January 12 to promote her new book ‘The Day I Shot Cupid,’ she told host George Lopez there’s an entire chapter dedicated to women taking care of their bodies after a breakup.
