In an effort to get independent filmmakers to be seen by the world, actor James Caan has stepped into the Chairman position for the new website Openfilm.com. Caan launched the website with fellow writers, producers and directors, including son Scott, Robert Duvall and Mark Rydell, who all sit on the advisory board and will counsel budding filmmakers on their craft. The late Orson Welles will be returning the big screen for Drac Studios’ “Christmas Tails”, with a long-lost recording of Welles reading the children’s Christmas story being used in a live/action-CGI film version. Drac, who are best known as the SFX shop behind “The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button”, is in development on “Christmas Tails,” directed by Todd Tucker and narrated by the legendary Welles, who died in 1985. Sofia Vergara, who has also landed a voice role in George Miller’s “Happy Feet 2″ and is slated for a November 18th, 2011 release, has joined the cast of Sony’s big-screen version of “The Smurfs”. Cancer-stricken actor Dennis Hopper has finally received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on March 27, Reuters is reporting. Even though the 73-year-old star of ‘Easy Rider’ has advanced prostate cancer and reportedly weighing around 100 pounds since getting sick, he still attended the unveiling with a smile. FOX decided to end the clock on its hit action series ’24′ on March 26, but hopes to bring federal agent Jack Bauer to the big screen, Reuters is reporting. The series, currently in its eighth season, has been one of the most successful dramas in the network’s history, but has seen a decline in ratings this year.
