Financial adviser to the stars Kenneth Starr was arrested on May 27 for wire fraud, investment adviser fraud and money laundering after “an actress” became suspicious of his activities and demanded to know where he money was, the Daily Beast is reporting. Starr is believed to have stolen $30 million from his clients, including the actress, believed to be Uma Thurman.
Starr, who also worked for such celebrities as Wesley Snipes and Martin Scorsese, is being held without bail, after he tried hiding in his home when police came looking for him. While none of his clients are specifically named on the indictment, Thurman is believed to have confronted Starr and wanted to know what happened to her $1 million investment.
While Thurman, who is listed as ‘Client No. 2′ in the indictment, got her money back, as typical in Ponzi schemes, it came from ‘Client 3.’Â That person is believed to be talent agent Jim Wiatt, the former head of William Morris.
U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said that the Ponzi scheme occurred between January 2008 and last month. Starr, who is head of the New York-based companies Starr and Co. and Starr Investment Advisors LLC, faces up to eight years in prison.
