While Christina Hendricks appears on Esquire’s May cover of ‘Women We Love,’ the ‘Mad Men’ actress wasn’t Editor-in-Chief David Granger’s first choice, the New York Daily News reported on June 4. Granger said at a magazine conference in Toronto that Scarlett Johansson was his number one choice, but she “…completely screwed us.”
While Granger didn’t specifically speak to the Daily News, the newspaper quoted the editor as saying Johansson was “committed” to the photo shoot. The quote was originally published in Canada’s National Post, and has garnered a lot of attention.
The Daily News also quoted a source who said that Johansson’s commitment to her Broadway play, Aruther Miller’s ‘A View From the Bridge,’ and to promoting ‘Iron Man 2,’ prevented her from appearing on the Esquire cover. Hendricks received 30 percent of the votes during a readers’ poll that also included Megan Fox (who received 14 percent) and Zoe Saldana (who received 13 percent). Zac Efron was even nominated as a joke, and received eight percent of the votes.
