Paris Hilton was detained for suspicion of possession of marijuana in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, on July 2, but was soon released thereafter, TMZ is reporting. Hilton was taken in after the World Cup quarterfinal match between Brazil and Netherlands.
The socialite’s rep told TMZ that she was held because someone she was with was caught smoking marijuana. The rep added that she has been cleared of any wrongdoing after she was questioned by local police, and even received an apology. However, Hilton’s publicist, Dawn Miller, refused to comment until she received all details from the court appearance.
However, the Associated Press (AP) is reporting that the Port Elizabeth police force wouldn’t confirm that it even was Hilton who was taken into custody. Officers only said that a high profile person was in court.
