NFL star athlete Reggie Bush, who plays for the New Orleans Saints, is under fire for violating NCAA rules while he played in college at USC. However, his ex-girlfriend, Kim Kardashian, is defending him, PEOPLE reported on July 23.  Though the two broke up for the second time in March, shortly after the Saints won their first Super Bowl title, Kardashian is speaking in Bush’s favor surrounding his tainted USC football career.

The reality star said “(Reggie) worked hard for that Heisman and deserves it. He earned it!” The Heisman is a coveted college football trophy Bush won in 2005 while playing for USC. While he won’t have to return his trophy, the school is voluntarily returning its copy, which has been displayed in Heritage Hall. The school will also be removing his displayed jerseys.

Last month, the NCAA determined from an investigation that Bush violated the association’s rules by accepting lavish gifts while playing for USC. Kardashian added that she doesn’t think the association and school’s decisions are fair.
