After Bridge to Terabithia, all Josh Hutcherson casting news became good news and ever since, he’s been making due on those high expectations. Journey to the Center of The Earth wasn’t anything fantastic, but certainly a good time and Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant may have gotten hit hard by critics and underperformed at the box office, but not only does that not reflect my own opinion of the film, but Hutcherson’s performance either. Now we’ve got The Kids Are All Right and it doesn’t really get much better than that.

But that doesn’t mean Hutcherson can’t try. Not only has he signed on to star in the teen horror comedy Detention, but to executive produce as well. According to Variety, the “story centers on teens who must survive their final year of high school. Standing in their way is a slasher-movie killer who has seemingly come to life.” Dane Cook is also on board to star, but his role is unknown.

Detention will mark Joseph Kahn’s second go-around behind the lens for a feature film. He’s well known for his work in the music video realm, but is also responsible for the 2004 film Torque. Kahn will put his $10 million budget to use when shooting kicks of in LA next month.
