With people still concerned about the effects of the oil spill in the Gulf, several celebrities, including Sandra Bullock, have filmed a PSA, asking Congress to send money to the Gulf Coast. But the Academy Award-winning actress is asking the video’s producers to remove her segment from the PSA until she finds out if the campaign was “influenced by oil companies,” Popeater.com reported on July 30.
The decision came after the website DeSmogBlog alleged the campaign was just a ploy to get taxpayer money to repair the damage left by the spill. The website also claimed the oil industry wants support for drilling. The claims came after the website discovered that the group that produced the PSA, Women of the Storm, is partners with America’s Wetland Foundation, which is sponsored in part by BP.
In response, Women of the Storm’s founder, Anne Milling, told the Associated Press (AP) that the PSA wasn’t funded by oil companies. She added that the foundation just provided expert testimony and information.
