After Madonna branched into the fashion world with her daughter Lordes Leon earlier this summer, launching the juniors clothing line Material Girl at Macy’s, the singer is being hit with a lawsuit from California-based clothing manufacturer L.A. Triumph, RadarOnline.com is reporting. L.A. Triumph is claiming it registered the name Material Girl for its juniors line in 1997, and has been selling the line in such big department stores as Nordstrom.

RadarOnline posted the lawsuit, which in part reads that since its launch, “L.A. Triumph and its predecessor have sold millions of dollars of the Material Girl brand of clothes in commerce throughout the United States and have spent large sums in promotion and advertisement.” The lawsuit also claims Madonna “improperly filed a United States Trademark Application” for the name in December. As a result, L.A. Triumph fells Madonna’s more well-known line will destroy its line.

Madonna’s line, which features ‘Gossip Girl’ actress and musician Taylor Momsen in its ads, has attracted attention for its risque advertising campaign. L.A. Triumph is hinting that it may sue Macy’s next for advertising Madonna’s line.
