Do Derek’s confirmation to a California commission that oversees horse racing and pari-mutuel wagering at racetracks has been delayed by the state’s Senate Rules Committee, FOXNews.com reported on August 26. The delay in the actress’ confirmation comes after Democratic Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg announced he wants more time to consider all four of the appointees nominated by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The four appointees can stay on the seven-member commission until October, but need Senate approval from Sacramento to remain after that. Derek is serving on the commission because she is an animal rights activist and horse lover.  She also owns a pet care products company. The confirmation of television writer and producer David Israel, who is looking to be appointed as horse racing commissioner, was also delayed.
