Angelina Jolie, who serves as a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Goodwill Ambassador, recently visited Pakistan to draw attention to the flood-stricken country. While there, the Academy Award-winning actress condemned a Florida church that plans to burn the Quran to mark the anniversary of 9/11, the Associated Press is reporting. After Jolie visited Pakistan refugee camps, she told reporters in Islamabad that she hardly has “the words that somebody would do that to somebody’s religious book.”
Pastor Terry Jones of the Dove World Outreach Center, an evangelical Christian church in Gainesville, is organizing the burning. He has repeatedly said that despite warnings from U.S. officials, he and his congregation intend to move forward with the burning.
With almost 21 million Pakistanis affected by the floods, Jolie is standing behind them. Not only is she supporting their religious book, but she’s also helping with the flood relief, saying “I was shocked especially by how high the flood waters went.”
