Kevin McCarthy, who rose to fame in the 1950s after playing a doctor in the original science-fiction classic ‘Invasion of the Body Snatchers,’ died on September 11, Popeater.com is reporting. Cape Cod Hospital spokesman Dave Riley confirmed the news, but wouldn’t give any other details.
The movie is remembered mainly for McCarthy’s performance as a doctor trying to save his community from aliens. He walked around his small town, warning people “You’re next!” as aliens took over the bodies of everyone on Earth.
While the 96-year-old actor had a successful acting career, as he starred in multiple other movies, on television shows and in theater, he still garnered the most attention for ‘Body Snatchers.’ While the movie wasn’t successful at the box office upon its initial release, it later became a classic when it was remade in the 1970s.
