CNN daytime anchor Rick Sanchez was fired from the network on October 1 after he called ‘The Daily Show’ host Jon Stewart a bigot, The New York Times is reporting. Sanchez made the remark while appearing on comedian Pete Dominick’s satellite radio show the day before to promote his book, ‘Conventional Idiocy.’ He also drew criticism after saying that everyone who runs CNN is “a lot like Stewart.”
Sanchez, who has been continuously ridiculed by Stewart on the hit Comedy Central talk show, continued his tirade, even when Dominick pointed that Stewart is Jewish. Sanchez responded by saying “…a lot of people who run all the other networks are a lot like Stewart, and to imply that somehow they, the people in this country who are Jewish, are an oppressed minority? Yeah.”
The interview was immediately leaked on the internet, and Sanchez’s position was terminated soon after. CNN released a statement later that day, saying “(Rick) Sanchez is no longer with the company. We thank (Rick) for his years of service and we wish him well.”
