Angelina Jolie is in the running to portray Cleopatra in a new film to be directed by James Cameron, Cinemablend.com is reporting. The director is in talks with Sony about the possibility of making another film about Cleopatra, based on the book by Stacy Schiff.
The news comes after rumors started in July that Jolie was considering portraying Elizabeth Taylor in a biopic. Taylor played Cleopatra in one of her more well-known roles in 1963. Since no word has surfaced on the Taylor biography since the summer, Cinemablend also reported that it’s most likely definite that Jolie has moved on from the project, to the Cleopatra movie.
Academy Award-winning writer Brian Helgeland, who won a Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar for his work on ‘L.A. Confidential,’ is also in talks to pen the script. However, as of yet, Sony hasn’t made any official plans to hire Cameron, Jolie or Helgeland.
