After months of rumors, Mariah Carey confirmed on ‘The Today Show’ that she’s pregnant. “Yes, we are pregnant. This is true,” the singer said. It will be the first child for Carey and her husband, Nick Cannon. She reportedly didn’t want to comment on the news earlier, because she is 41 and is superstitious about having her first child so late in life.
While Carey has shied away from confirming the reports, Cannon hasn’t stayed away from the rumors, hinting that his wife was pregnant on his radio show. He even told PEOPLE in March 2009 that he wanted to start a family.
While reports are also suggesting the couple is expecting a boy, they haven’t confirmed or denied those rumors yet. “It’s been a long journey. It’s been tough because I’ve been trying to hold on to a shred of privacy,” Carey also said on ‘Today.’
The pregnancy rumors began in June, after Carey dropped out of Tyle Perry’s new film, ‘For Colored Girls.’ Her rep denied the rumors at the time. However, Carey’s replacement in the film, Thandie Newton, said on ‘The View’ the day before Carey’s official announcement that she thought she was brought in because the singer is pregnant.
