Jessica Simpson and her new boyfriend, former NFL player Eric Johnson, are reportedly engaged, US Weekly is claiming. The news comes days after Simpson’s ex-husband, singer Nick Lachey, confirmed the news he proposed to his long-time girlfriend, former MTV host Vanessa Minnillo.
Simpson and Johnson met in May, and the two showed their commitment in July when they went to Italy to celebrate her 30th birthday. The singer and reality-show star publicly discussed her relationship with Johnson last month after his divorce from his wife of five years, Keri, was finalized. Simpson said “We’re just best friends. He’s my dude! I love him.”
After Simpson appeared on the hit MTV reality show ‘Newlyweds’ with Lachey between 2002 and 2005, the two divorced a year later. He immediately began dating Minnillo, and Simpson later dated John Mayer and another football player, Tony Romo. While her rep hasn’t officially confirmed the engagement, her sister Ashlee’s husband, Pete Wentz, told People.com that Johnson is “a really smart guy, and Jessica really loves him.”
