‘The Crow’ remake suffered another blow when Mark Wahlberg confirmed he won’t be portraying the lead role of Eric Draven. The news comes after director Stephen Norrington also declined to move forward with the project. Also, the comic book community has not embraced the proposed film as much as the 1994 original.

The Academy Award-nominated actor, who’s generating more Oscar buzz for his upcoming film ‘The Fighter,’ told Cinematical.com that “They talked to me about it and there was a director attached who I was a fan of, and he’s no longer doing it. We just thought about-‘is there something cool to be done there?’ But we’re not committed to making the movie.”

The original film featured Brandon Lee in his final movie role as rock musician Eric Draven, who comes back from the dead to avenge his and his fiancee’s murders. The movie was based on the 1989 comic book of the same name and was directed by Alex Proyas. It was released to critical and commercial success, despite the fact that Lee died on set during the end of production. Three sequels to the cult film were released over the next 11 years, but they all received negative reviews.
