During his first interview with Oprah Winfrey on her hit daytime talk show, country singer Keith Urban said he worried that his stay in rehab would affect his new marriage to fellow Australian Nicole Kidman, Usmagazine.com is reporting. Seeking treatment just four months after their wedding, Urban told Oprah that he thought “Surely, let’s give it a few years so we’ve got some solidity, because this kind of thing could tear us apart.”

But Urban’s Academy Award-winning actress wife ended up staging an intervention for her husband. “It was really a profound moment in so many ways. The way in which (Nic) handled that moment was just perfect…I believe, for that moment to fuse us together,” he said.

Urban went into rehab in 2006, the third time in eight years. “I had to make a decision which road I was going to take…I’d been at that crossroads before and always taken the wrong road,” he said. He added that Kidman taught him so much and opened his eyes, and he’s in the best place he’s ever been.
