Wesley Snipes has begun his three-year sentence for failing to file income tax returns, Popeater.com is reporting. The 48-year-old ‘Blade’ actor is serving his sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution McKean in Lewis Run, Pennsylvania, the prison’s spokesman, Ed Ross, has confirmed.
The minimum-security prison houses 200 nonviolent inmates, who live in two-man rooms. McKean officials insist the ‘White Men Can’t Jump’ star won’t be given special treatment while he’s serving his time. Snipes will be allowed to work in the kitchen, laundry room or doing other chores, and will only earn several cents an hour. He will only be allowed to spend $290 a month.
Snipes is a member of a tax-protest group that questions the government’s right to collect taxes. While he has described himself as a “naive truth-seeker,” he told Larry King during an interview that he wasn’t nervous about starting his sentence.
