The box office results for Christmas weekend has a bunch of Fockers getting all the attention. Meanwhile, most other releases show their Grit and hold strong. Here are the studio estimates:

10. The King’s Speech ($4.5 million)
Analysis
No surprise Little Fockers dominated Christmas time. Since opening on the Wednesday prior, the third installment in the comedic giant has grossed just over $48 million thus far. This flick isn’t performing as well as the previous flicks, and it may have to struggle in reaching a profitable status. Fockers came in with a production budget of around $110 million. Another interesting element is that audiences and critics are panning this one. The previous two avoided any negative word-of-mouth.
True Grit also opened on Wednesday and its five-day total is sits at $37 million. With the opening weekend gross, this is by far the best opening the Coens have seen in their career. Factoring in all the award buzz for this classic remake, Grit could hold steady over the next few weeks. Which will then bring the Coens their highest grossing film to date.
Tangled currently has the longest streak in the top ten with 5 weeks. It’s domestic total is now up to $143 million. Keep in mind though, the production budget was a massive $260 million.
Flop Alert: Gulliver’s Travels. Although the production budget has yet to come out, the low debut coupled with the fact that this flick had a ton of CGI work, leads one to assume that 20th Century Fox will not have a winner here like they did with last year’s Alvin and the Chipmunks sequel. Sleeper Hit: The King’s Speech. Production budget was $15 million and the award nominee has currently grossed about $8.5 million domestically. With the expansion into new markets along with the award hype reaching a fever-pitch, this flick could methodically yield profits for The Weinstein Company.
This coming week, the theaters will be very low-key in terms of new releases. Blue Valentine expands into new markets but it will still be in a limited capacity. Review will be right here as always.
