The new haunted house movie ‘Insidious,’ which was written and directed by ‘Saw’ co-creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell, has been set for an April 1, 2011 release, Indiewire.com is reporting. The film stars Rose Byrne and Patrick Wilson, and received positive reviews when it premiered at the Midnight Madness festival in Toronto.

‘Insidious’ was picked up by Sony at the festival, and will be released by Graham King’s new distribution company Film District. While the movie will have stiff competiton during its opening weekend, including the Jake Gyllenhaal thriller ‘Source Code’ and the Jamie King horror-thriller ‘Mother’s Day,’ Sony is hoping the film’s early positive reviews and its strong marketing campaign will help ‘Insidious.’ The studio is also hoping horror fans will forget the other two movies Wan has directed, the 2007 flops ‘Dead Silence’ and ‘Death Sentence.’
