Former 1980s teen star C. Thomas Howell has been cast in the Spider-Man reboot, according to ScreenCrave and Entertainment Weekly. Howell has been cast as a character named “Ray”. While there hasn’t been any officially word as to what Ray will do or how he will fit into the overall story of the film, there is a character in the comic book named Ray Cooper, the late father of Peter Parker’s current girlfriend in the comics, Carlie.

Howell originally made his mark on the big screen in films like The Outsiders, E.T., Red Dawn, and Gettysburg. He has also been on several TV shows including Moonlighting, The Outer LImits, and V.I.P., as well as guest roles on recent hit shows like Psych, Criminal Minds, and Southland. Other recent projects for Howell include roles in Camel Spiders, Chupacabra, Wedding Day and Razor, all of which are in post-production.

The Spider-Man reboot, which is still untitled, is scheduled to be released July 3, 2012 and is directed by Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer). The film will star rising actor Andrew Garfield as well as Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Sally Field, Denis Leary, and Martin Sheen. The screenplay is written by James Vanderbilt (The Losers, Zodiac, Basic).
