According to ScreenCrave,  Judge Dredd Movie News and The Playlist, Lena Headey has been cast as the main villain in the upcoming Judge Dredd movie.

Headey, known for her roles as Sarah Connor in the TV show Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles as Queen Gorgo in 300, will play Madeline Madrigal, a.k.a. Ma-Ma, the leader of a drugs gang who, according to The Playlist, deal the mind-bending narcotic SLO MO. Also according to the site, she and her gang rule over an apartment block called Peach Trees. According to Judge Dredd Movie News, Headey has written on her official Facebook page that she is in South Africa, the location for the film. The casting has also been confirmed by Headley’s reps, according to The Playlist.

This news joins other positive developments for the film; Pete Travis (Vantage Point, Omagh, Endgame) directing and Alex Garland (Batman: Black and White, Never Let Me Go, 28 Days Later) is the screenwriter. Oliva Thirlby has also been cast as, according to The Playlist, Dredd’s sidekick/trainee judge who possesses mental powers; Karl Urban has been cast as Dredd himself.

Judge Dredd is based on the comic book of the same name, chronicling the futuristic cop as he takes on crime. The film is expected to be in theaters early 2012.
