After receiving record-breaking ratings for its fourth-season premiere earlier this month, ‘Californication’ has been picked up for a fifth season, Comingsoon.net is reporting. Showtime Networks President of Entertainment David Nevins confirmed the news, adding that the comedy series will air twelve episodes next season.

David Duchovny, who won a Golden Globe in 2008 for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Comedy or Musical for his portrayal of womanizing author Hank Moody, will join the rest of the cast and crew to begin production in the spring. The current season, which drew over one million viewers, follows Hank as he hires a high-powered defense attorney, played by guest star Carla Gugino, to keep him out of jail after his sexual encounters with a minor.

Other guest stars scheduled to appear during the fourth season are Rob Lowe, Zoe Kravitz and Tommy Lee. ‘Californication’ was created by Tom Kapinos and is executive produced by both Kapnios and Duchovny.
