Great The Dark Knight Rises news today! Catwoman has been cast! According to The Hollywood Reporter, Anne Hathaway will play the famous cat-burglar who often toes the line of heroine and villain as well as teases Batman with her feminine wiles.

Hathaway was chosen out of a list of highly credible and well-skilled actresses, including Keira Knightly and Jessica Biel, according to the site.

But the good news doesn’t end there. Tom Hardy, an actor already closely associated with Christopher Nolan due to Inception, will play villain Bane.

As to how the characters will be written and played, it is a fair assumption that there will be a heavy emphasis on personal and psychological turmoil, as all of the Batman characters in Nolan’s interpretation, including Batman himself, have had severe psychological taxation, with the Joker (played by the late Heath Ledger) being the most deranged. The psychological hoops the characters go through also allow for the Nolan films to be the most faithful to the dark source material.

The script, derived from a story by Nolan and David S. Goyer, is written by Nolan and his brother Jonathan. The film, which will be directed by Nolan, is expected to start shooting sometime in May; the main shooting locations will be London and Los Angeles. The film is expected to be in theaters July 20, 2012.
